Jim Dear is a dedicated public servant with a remarkable career in California politics. He started in 2001 as a Carson City Council member, eventually becoming Mayor in 2004 and winning subsequent elections in 2005, 2009, 2013, and later returning to the City Council in 2018. Born and raised in Los Angeles County, he's deeply connected to his community.
Before politics, Jim was a dedicated educator, teaching history and English in the L.A. Unified School District. His political journey began as an intern with Congressman Glenn Anderson and later as a legislative aide for State Senator Ralph Dills.
In addition to his public service, Jim is active in various community organizations, and his accomplishments include founding the Women's Issues Commission, the Carson International Sculpture Garden, and the Carson Toastmasters Club. He's a strong advocate for ethics in government, public safety, and local businesses, making a lasting impact on Carson residents.
